The Arizona Cardinals announced they have traded 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Simmons to the New York Giants in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick.

The 25-year-old Simmons was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has yet to miss a game in his NFL career, starting 37 times over three seasons and accumulating 258 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions.

The move comes less than a week after Simmons played 25 snaps for Arizona in his second preseason game as safety. He made the switch to safety from linebacker in the offseason after playing throughout the Cardinals’ defense in his first three seasons under former coach Kliff Kingsbury and former defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

Giants coach Brian Daboll told reporters Thursday at training camp that Simmons’ versatility was a factor in the trade: “That’s one of the reasons we made the trade. We thought there was some upside there. We will put him in and ask him to do quite a bit of things just to see what he takes to. He is a guy that’s athletic, explosive, has good size. We’ve seen him do multiple things.”
